Ameris Bank Holds Grand Opening for New Blountstown Branch

ATLANTA (February 11, 2026) – Ameris Bank is celebrating the grand opening of a new branch in Blountstown, Florida, located at 17214 Main Street North. Serving customers in Calhoun and Liberty counties, the new branch replaces the previous Ameris location at 16763 Southeast Pear Street and offers retail banking, business banking and mortgage lending services.

The new downtown location aligns with Ameris Bank’s longstanding commitment to the Blountstown community. Choate Construction led construction of the branch, designed to honor the historic elements of the area. The branch will continue to employ five people. Ameris opened the previous branch in 2015.

“This new branch represents more than just a place to bank – it’s a commitment to building relationships and growing together for years to come,” said Lawton Bassett, Ameris Bank President. “This location underscores our confidence in the Blountstown community and our ongoing investment in its people, businesses and future.”

Florida lawmakers are considering new legislation that could expand affordable housing options by allowing homeowners to rent out portions of their homes. Senate Bill 48, which has already passed the Florida Senate unanimously, would require local governments to permit accessory dwelling units in certain areas, enabling homeowners to create small rental spaces for tenants. Supporters say the measure could help address rising housing costs, provide additional income for homeowners, and create more attainable living options for renters, particularly seniors, students, and working families. The bill still requires House approval before it can become law. Read more: <Full Story>

Water, Drought, Freeze!

Florida’s water systems remain under pressure as drought conditions and recent freezes highlight the importance of conservation and environmental awareness. UF/IFAS Extension officials note that below-average rainfall has led to watering restrictions in some areas, urging residents to follow local guidelines to protect limited freshwater supplies. At the same time, freezing temperatures have damaged vegetation and created unusual natural phenomena like “ice ribbons” or “frost flowers,” which form when plant stems split and water freezes as it’s drawn upward. Experts say these weather extremes underscore how dynamic and interconnected Florida’s water resources are. Say hello to Bobo!!

Meet Bobo🐾

Bobo is a nice beautiful 7 month-old male mini Weimaraner mixed puppy. He is a fun and friendly boy.  He weighs around 20-25 pounds. Bobo is the perfect mix of fun, curiosity, and playfulness.  He loves exploring the world around him — whether it’s chasing other dogs in the yard, meeting new friends, or snuggling up for a nap after a big adventure. He is a true "people dog" who thrives on human companionship and is eager to be a part of your family's adventures.

True to his roots, Bobo is food-motivated, eager to please, and great on a leash. He’s doing great with crate training and potty training, and he’s always excited to show off how clever he is (especially if treats are involved!).

Bobo has a heart as big as he is! He is known for his affectionate temperament and gets along wonderfully with people, kids, and other dogs. He’s still young and learning his manners, but he’s full of potential and ready to grow into a loyal, loving companion.

If you’re looking for a joyful, loyal pup to join your family and fill your days with laughter, love, and puppy kisses — Bobo might just be your perfect match. You can apply for him at northfloridarescue.com. Bobo's adoption fee is $400. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all of his shots.
