Treating Cold Damaged Citrus

The recent deep freeze in North Florida caused noticeable cold damage to many citrus trees, turning leaves brown and brittle and leading to fruit drop. According to the University of Florida IFAS Extension, the best approach for home growers now is patience — wait to see how much damage the tree sustained before fertilizing lightly in spring, watering as needed, and pruning dead wood later in the season. Letting the tree show new growth will help you know how to care for it and give it the best chance to recover over the coming year. Trivia Answer:

How did Florida get its name?

Answer:

Explorer Juan Ponce de León named the land La Florida in 1513, inspired by Spain’s Easter season celebration, Pascua Florida, meaning “Flowery Feast.”
